Sustainability

Our range of fabrics and products are made from 100% pure linen. Linen is made from flax – a fast-growing, renewable resource that is widely recognised as one of the most sustainable raw materials in the world.

Sustainability

A field of flax requires no additional irrigation – it gains all the moisture it needs from natural rainfall. It is also an incredibly hardy crop, requiring significantly less pesticides and fertilisers than cotton.

Flax fibres are separated from the stem via a natural process known as “dew retting” which again requires no additional chemicals, energy or water and allows nutrients to return to the soil through the natural decomposition of the unused “bark” of the stem.

Once harvested, very little is wasted, as all parts of the plant are used across a wide range of industries, from cosmetics to animal feed. And, at the end of its life-span, linen is also fully biodegradable.

There are human benefits to living alongside linen, too. It is an intrinsically hypoallergenic and antibacterial fabric, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin. It is fast-drying, with excellent thermo regulating properties, providing coolness in hot weather and warmth in cool weather.

Sustainability

At Volga, we are committed to ensuring we tread as lightly as possible on our planet. We are continually looking to improve our practices and processes, from the dye we use to the way in which our fabrics are farmed, packaged and transported.
